MAY

Well Hello! Everyone….. Firstly I must apologise for the lack of any blog in April. This is a direct result of how busy we have been.

When I last wrote we were about to embark on our 1st ever show with our newly built Show hut named Holly. We had 3 glorious days at Firle Garden Show in the East Sussex Countryside in the beautiful grounds of FIRLE PLACE.

Holly was a complete success and we had hundreds of people through the doors, all very taken with her colours and style. She felt very nostalgic and we had dressed her with an old leather wingback chair and some cosy cushions and throws – all very sumptuous! One gentleman even had a tear in his eye as he recalled staying in one as a young boy – it was very emotional at times!

Not in our wildest dreams did we imagine the hut would evoke such keen interest and feelings so we were absolutely delighted with the outcome.

We followed that with a weekend at Spring Live at Ardingly showground in West Sussex. Another great weekend with excellent footfall and genuine interest.

So much so that we are pretty much booked for the year! Amazing progress and we couldn’t be more pleased.

How are your Jubilee celebrations coming along? Taking shape hopefully for a fun filled weekend ahead?

We will be at the FLORAL FRINGE FAIR being held at the stunning Leonardslee Gardens for the first time so we are really forward to it.

It’s a wonderful feeling to have things to look forward to, especially after the last few years that we’ve all experienced. Whether it’s the Jubilee celebrations, an event or holiday or maybe just a family BBQ!

Enjoy the early summer sunshine – I’m sure its on its way 😊

MARCH

Just am I’m writing this, the weather has turned. Just a few days ago the temperature outside was a chilly 12 degrees and as if overnight the weatherman is saying it will be 20 degrees at the weekend – what balmy heights!

Ultimately this is a prime example of the evidence of global warming and whilst this is something in the back of all our minds – in the forefront of our minds is “what on earth do I wear today?” and “wow look at the garden, that’s going to take some work!”

However the weather effects your everyday life, there’s no getting away from the fact that Spring is most definitely here, even if we’ve almost gone from winter to summer overnight! There is frothy blossom on the trees, mostly pastel pink and the bright green leaves are following on behind. I’m looking forward to a pastel season.

Getting outdoors and enjoying this weather is so important for us all, not only because we need the vitamin D, but because the benefits of fresh air can make you calmer, clear your head and feel generally more positive.

These are thoughts that have been emulated by some of our lovely customers who are using their huts for working in. They are finding it invigorating to walk down their garden path with a fresh coffee in hand, to spend some time in their beautiful hut. Working from home is most definitely here to stay and being able to do your job, whatever that may be – whilst being able to feel part of your outside space, to smell your flowers, to view your garden all whilst working has got to be a bonus!?

If this is something you feel could work for you, why not come and visit us at Firle Garden Show, Near LEWES, East Sussex over the Easter Weekend – 15/16/17 April, or at Spring Live, Ardingly Show ground, West Sussex 23/24 April. Our show hut is a little smaller than we would usually build but it will fill you with inspriration and ideas for your own space!

St Eval candles

We recently partnered up with St. Eval who are such an amazing company who specialise in hand poured candles. Not only are they a sustainable company, but one of the few who are “keen to keep traditional crafts alive” in their choice of method and ingredients.

We wanted to partner with St. Eval for so many reasons, one of them being that they are a UK based company and all of their products are made in Cornwall.

As a company their values are incredible. They pride themselves on keeping traditions alive and staying rooted in all things natural.

“Treading softly on the earth.”

They use a combination of mineral and vegetable wax which is completely VEGAN.

Also being completely plastic free.

They have their own sustainable energy via wind, solar and biomass to reduce the carbon footprint and impact on the environment. Enough to power their workshop and to be able to produce all products. They have gone above and beyond to do their bit for the planet, we should all aspire to do the same.

You might be thinking, why have we partnered with a candle company when we are selling bespoke shepherds huts? I’ll tell you why….

We aren’t just selling our beautiful shepherds huts, we are selling the entire lifestyle.

Everyone we’ve chosen to partner with, their brands and products compliment our huts so brilliantly.  And St. Eval is no exception. If your using your hut for lively garden parties, relaxing spa room or even as an office, these candles will make every occasion so inviting. Their unique range of scents mean there’s definitely something for everyone.

FEBRUARY

February is such a funny month I think. Its an inbetweeny kind of time when the weather is so cold and grey so it feels very much like its still winter and its too early to think of spring. Where does it sit with you? I guess it depends on your outlook – are you a glass half empty or glass half full kind of person?

Looking in the recycling box, its easy to see that dry January went by unaccomplished and the bacon sandwiches on a Saturday morning meant that Veganuary went the same way!

So as I write this, I’m really thinking ahead to the things I’m looking forward to and will be grateful to see. The spring flowers and the blossom on the trees, overflowing garden centre’s and supermarkets piled high with young plants – all of this brings me joy!  Audrey Hepburn once said “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow” and this is why some of our first shows that we are visiting with our Show hut will be Garden Shows.

They are such great events full of great handmade or homegrown produce and the optimism is tangible.

If you are able to attend, we will be at FIRLE GARDEN SHOW which is just outside LEWES on the A27 from Friday 15th April to Sunday 17th April. You can see our show hut, come and have a chat with us and purchase some of our great accessories available on the day. We may even have a competition up and running! All exciting stuff!

In the meantime, if you are thinking ahead to the springtime and dreaming of how you can maximize the space in your garden, a Shepherds Hut could be the ideal thing for you. Multi functional, traditional and beautiful – for work, for play, and for relaxation. If you like the idea and want to see how this could work for you, give us a call on 01903 535466.

JANUARY

So Christmas is over and we came through the other side! Then New year happened and sooo many people got COVID! Not the best start to a new year but thankfully so many of us are fully vaccinated now so overall the outcome is much better than this time last year.

We’ve had a really busy start to the year and so many positive enquiries to start January with – some great customers with lots of plans ahead so that really lifted our spirits.

Lots of quoting and visiting customers makes us feel really optimistic for the start of this year. January always feels like such a very long month – does it for you? Are you doing dry January? Or Veganuary? Both very valiant ideas and believe me we’ve done both in previous years. For us, it was a little too much to think about when we’re super busy so we haven’t managed either this time ☹

One of the most difficult things this time of year apart from it being damp and cold – is the lack of light. Days are still short, although getting slowly better each day. But the quality of light is very dull and grey without a great deal of brightness – like a veil has been laid over everything and the world has had some colour removed.

This really made me think and almost celebrate that several of our recently commissioned huts are destined to be Art studio’swith extra windows to encapsulate that light – and what amazing spaces they will be to sit and paint in! Relaxing, calming and beautiful locations to unwind, chill and be creative.

Whether it’s a Art Studio,  a Gin bar for you and the girls or a den for the kids – our Shepherds Huts are wonderfully adaptable while retaining such a characterful appearance.

DECEMBER

How are we all feeling in the early morning and early evening darkness? December is a difficult month to deal with in many ways with the daylight hours at a minimum and the dampness of this constant drizzly weather becoming incredibly tedious – especially when you have dogs who want to get out there but loathe the wet weather!

It has certainly been a strange lead up to the holidays with the ongoing covid 19 problems. We spent ages agonizing over what we should do and who we should see in the lead up……. ButChristmas has been a welcome break in the monotony and we really hope you’ve all managed to enjoy some time with your friends and family this festive season!

We have been busy planning ahead to our next show hut which we will be building over the next few months and are aiming to take the hut to lots of shows in the south of England to meet as many of our followers as we can – so watch this space! This next hut will be multi purpose as once the spring and summer shows are done, we will be converting it to a bespoke food truck for some amazing chefs that we know. So with this in mind we will be installing some individual design features right from the start that will make it perfect for its future life at food festivals!
